ABOUT THE AUTHOR

SALEM LOROT is a Legal Counsel at the National Assembly of Kenya. He holds a post-graduate diploma in law from Kenya School of Law and LL.B from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa. He is a Legislative Drafter with a legislative drafting experience of more than eight years. He holds certificates in Legislative Drafting from the Tulane Law School, the International Law Institute-African Centre for Legal Excellence ( ILI-ACLE) and Royal Institute of Public Administration (RIPA), London. He has been consulted widely on trainings on parliament and legislative drafting, and legislative drafting assignments. He was been part of a team that helped translate Kenya National Assembly Standing Orders from English to Kiswahili and also published more than 30 Factsheets on Kenya’s Parliament. He is a Member of the Commonwealth Association of Legislative Counsel (CALC), Pan African Lawyers Union (PALU) and the Law Society of Kenya (LSK). Mr. Lorot has published three books: Disability: Law and Rights (co-authored with David Teti), Bar Exams and Pupillage: What you are not Taught (co-authored with David Teti), and the Alphabet of Kenya and Other Poems.

Mr. Lorot was the 1st Runner-up Public Sector Lawyer of the Year in the Annual Nairobi Legal Awards 2019.
